About

Laurie grew up in Dallas, Texas. She received a BFA from the University of North Texas with a focus on theater costuming. After working for several years in the apparel industry in Dallas, she changed career directions and began teaching art in K-12 schools. She currently resides in Fayetteville, Arkansas where she helps direct a non-profit arts venue.

As a child I was more comfortable with animals than humans and seldom was seen without my nose in a book. It is; therefore, predictable that my work centers around the stories I grew up on and there is a visual focus on creatures of anthropomorphic design. They make me happy. I see little difference between the animal and human world, although humans seem a bit less straight forward and more prone to dark deeds.

My works often hint at mute, sometimes whimsical tales of life, death, and love. My sources are varied: historical, mythic, folktales, life experiences.

I hope you enjoy the work.
